How Meditation Transformed My Life
Meditation.
Do you have an opinion on it?
I bet you do- I bet it's an immediate YES or HELL TO THE NO.
I know that before I started "doing it" I was 100% the latter.
I didn't believe I was the type of person who "meditated." Ha! It sort of makes me laugh now, because now I love it and I have embraced it so much into into my daily life.
But before? You wouldn't catch me doing it.
But, that was simply because I was totally uninformed as to what it is and what it can do for you.
I had no clue.
I thought it would involve me sitting on a lotus flower, hands turned up, chanting, and in this trance for hours and hours and hours.
Let me be clear. That has not been my experience.
Rather, it's been al lovely way for me to relax. Get back into my body. Calm myself. Remove myself from the daily distractions and technology that was triggering me.
My practice started gradually.
I decided I wanted to meditate. Or rather, I believe my soul was SCREAMING at me. ALLISON. YOU NEED TO meditate! lol.
So, I decided to look on YouTube for some calming guided meditations.
Each night I would do one before bed. And I enjoyed it. It was easy to follow along and bonus, I always slept great.
I then decided I wanted more, so I signed up for a monthly program which was full of incredibly spiritual guided meditations.
That helped me connect with my spirit guides and feel very connected to God. I was beginning to go deeper and have images come into my mind while doing it.
Note. I was HOOKED at this point.
I signed up for and completed a certification program to become a certified meditation teacher.
I am now obsessed.
I has helped me:
Relax. Be more calm. Centered. Grounded. Less grumpy. Sleep better. Feel connected with God. Receive direct messages from my Spirit Guides. Gives me answers to questions. Feel reconnected into my body. Improved my body image. Self talk. Self love. ALL THE THINGS.
When I say TRANSFORMED ME. I mean it. I feel like a totally different person. I am so happy so full of life and joy and spirituality.
And I credit my mediation practice to opening that door for me.
But here's the thing. I don't do it for hours. I mean at this point I probably could, but I don't need to. 1 minute is enough. 5-8 minutes is PERFECT.
As for sitting on a lotus flower?
No way.
I am usually sitting on my bed, which my back straight and my hands resting on my knees. If I have my legs crossed for too long they fall asleep. haha.
And it can be however, whatever you want it to be. For as long as you need. What makes you feel relaxed? Connected?
For me. It's being outside in nature. It's in the bath. It's on a walk.
You can literally close your eyes, take 5 deep breaths, and you my friend. Just meditated.
You can do it ANYWHERE. And I do. On a walk, outside, on a bike ride, in the bath, in the carpool lane. etc. etc. etc. You know all those moments when you are waiting for something and do whip out your phone to do the scroll?
I would encourage you to rather close your eyes and take some deep deep deep breaths for those 5 minutes instead.
Here is what I have learned meditation to be for me:
1. A chance to calm yourself
2. A quick moment to yourself
3. A way to relax
4. Be still
5. A chance to quickly remove yourself from the daily stress/overwhelm/and anxiety.
6. It can be as fast as you want it to be.
7. A healthy trance that allows you to reprogram your subconscious mind
It can be all of those things for you too if you allow it to.
So today, why not take 2 minutes. Close your eyes and take 5 deep deep belly breaths. In your mind repeat the mantra to yourself "Today, I am living my best life." over and over and over while you breath.
Give yourself a break, you will think about your grocery list, your job, and everything else that comes into your mind. That doesn't matter. Just allow the thought to come in and then let it go. And get back to your mantra.
Give this a try today, and let me know how it goes. And then give it a try tomorrow too. Commit to this practice everyday for 7 days. Just 2 minutes for 7 days.
You've got this.
I can't wait to hear how meditation transforms your life too.
